20/STARRY NIGHT

I looked into your deep wise eyes
Your bouncing hair and beckoning smile
I tried to look at the world around me
But next to you, I was stuck in time

For a moment, I didn’t see the uphill climb
Pride pulsing through my reckless mind
Instead, there was love and sparks of joy
Like fireworks bursting through the sky

And you said, “You know that feeling-
Where the game seems like yours to win?”
I nodded, looked at the dusky sky
In spite of all the chattering din

For even in the pouring rain,
The stars still shone in the sky
And even when all seemed dismal
All we could ever do was try

I tried to hold on to the feeling
But the beat of my heart was too loud
And the crowds cheered and called our names
Like some delirious impulsive sound

Your grasp on my hand was tight
But your eyes wandered in the fog
Could I trust you to stay with me
When all the dust was gone?

The courage of the night was slowly fading
I knew this was my last chance
But through the storm and muddy waters
We held onto each other and danced
